420 Sorbitol (sorbitol syrup)

Sorbitol is a hexahydric alcohol used to sweeten foods in place of sugar.

Unlike no-kilojoule sweeteners it is of little benefit for weight reduction as it supplies the same kilojoules as sugar.

Sorbitol is also used as a humectant (to reduce the loss of moisture).

High doses may have a laxative effect.
